La Fernandina solar PV plant

La Fernandina photovoltaic solar plant

This solar PV plant began its construction works in Merida (Spain) in January 2019. This project, with a total capacity of 50MW, will have Gamesa Electric equipment.
La Fernandina is our first project in Spain with our prefabricated concrete solutions (including photovoltaic inverters and MV switchgear) and with outdoor transformer.

For its construction, located on an area of 100 hectares, we will supply nine Gamesa Electric PV Station 5000, including 18 Gamesa Electric PV 2500 Inverters (2,600 KVA @ 25ºC). Also, for grid code interconnection requirements compliance applicable to the photovoltaic plant, a Power Plant Controller will be supplied.
The construction works are expected to continue over the next nine months, and the entry into operation and grid connection is scheduled for the end of 2019.
With an investment of 30 million euros, the plant will annually generate electricity to provide power to more than 26,000 homes.
In addition, according to the emission factors published by the Spanish Office of Climate Change (OECC), it will avoid the emission of 40,000 tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.

This project is part of an agreement for the supply of photovoltaic stations for five plants in Spain for a total of 250 MW; 150 MW of which were awarded by the Government of Spain in the last renewable energy auction.
